Q:

How can we effectively track shifts in team performance during a match?

I′ve been involved in coaching a youth soccer team for a couple of seasons now, and one of the biggest challenges I′ve faced is tracking our performance during matches. In my first season, I relied solely on my observations and some basic stats like goals scored and conceded. However, I quickly realized that this approach was too simplistic and didn′t capture the nuances of how we were actually playing as a team. We often struggled to identify which players were underperforming or if certain strategies weren′t working until it was too late—after the match ended.

I started looking into sports analytics but found it overwhelming. What are some effective methods or tools that can help track shifts in team performance during a game? Are there specific metrics I should focus on to get a clearer picture of our strengths and weaknesses in real-time?
